2 Years Post Transplant (:

A new friend finds Adahlia in Aruba

I have been granted a wish from Make-a-Wish (a camper) and am about to go on a road trip with my mom and 3 cats to South Carolina.

I used to have just 2 cats, a bonded boy black cat and a girl tortoise-shell/calico cat. We got our third during a recent trip to Aruba. During our last few days there we stayed at a residence where we found this cute little female black cat. Well, she really found us. The story is that one morning, I was reading in the yard and enjoying some coffee and suddenly, this little female black cat comes up to me and will not leave. When I say she wouldn’t leave, I mean she stayed by our rented house for many days. My mom called the owner of the rental and was told she didn’t belong to anyone (lots of feral cats) and to take her home if we wanted. She was eating from the trashcans and had spots of missing fur. She tolerated a trip to the vet where she was checked for a microchip (nope!), given an ultrasound to check for pregnancy (negative), treated for potential parasites, tested for diseases (none!) and poked with 3 needles for vaccines, and STILL stuck around. Every time we called for her, she came. She even lay down next to us on an outdoor bed by the pool at night under stars. She was calm as she rode in a cat carrier during an electric scooter/electric bike ride to and from the vet, a next-day taxi ride to the airport, and finally, a long day of plane flights. In order for us to bring her home we had to change our plane tickets. It was worth it! She and our two other cats are becoming friends and starting to play together. She is the sweetest and most calm cat I have ever had, and she is such a dream to have around.

More news yet, I celebrated my 14th birthday this month with a family of friends who stuck with me while I recovered from transplant. They have given me hope and have been the most constant and amazing friends. I really cannot wait for the adventure-filled life ahead of me and the opportunity my life will give me to spread hope and happiness throughout the community and maybe, someday, the world.
